President’s Message 7/26/14
As we move through the Torah portions at Shabbat Services, we have just finished the fourth book of the Torah, Numbers, and are starting the fifth and last book, Deuteronomy. When we reach this point in the Torah, I know it is time to start preparing for the High Holidays or as we say in the Religious Committee, “the busy season”.
Congregation B’nai Israel has several exciting events leading up to the Holidays. There is something for everyone and I look forward to your participation. Thursday, August 7 we will hold our annual baseball evening. Our guest, Marty Lurie, radio broadcaster on the Giant’s radio station KNBR, and Rabbi White will lead a panel discussion on the relationship between baseball and Judaism.
A blessed event on August 16, the Bar Mitzvah of Jacob Sousa. We will welcome Jacob into the Jewish Community. We will be a better community with the addition of Jacob.
Sunday, August 24 is our Open House and Religious School registration. If any of you know Jewish folks in the area that do not belong to a Synagogue, please bring them to the Open House. We want to meet them.
September 6 brings another blessed event, the Bat Mitzvah of Jasmine Anderson. The Jewish Community will be improved by having Jasmine as a member.
One of the best parts of being President of Congregation B’nai Israel is the honor of sitting on the Bima during the B’nai Mitzvahs. Seeing the joy of the families at this milestone event is thrilling. I enjoy being part of the celebration.
Sunday, September 21 is the annual TLC Concert. A group of excellent musicians put on a show we will all enjoy and the funds we raise are used to help B’nai Israel members who might need assistance with medical expenses. A fun evening for a good cause.
Then we observe the High Holidays. A meaningful time for us all. I look forward to seeing you, our B’nai Israel family as we enter our “busy season”.
