President’s Message – August 2022
It has been such a great month already for me – my birthday, a great Sha’BarBQ, the exciting celebration of Amari’s bar mitzvah… and we have our annual Open House next Sunday! We have had multiple chances to share in our community, and now we have an opportunity to share with newcomers, and invite them to get to know us. This will be a chance to share our personal stories, and share our synagogue stories.
Several people have been invaluable in preparing for all these events. Ralph Pierce and Angelic Pierce have spent hours and hours preparing food for our events and organizing. Many family members helped prepare for the bar mitzvah. Gail Lamkins, Mary Schwartz, Jennifer Mercado, Myra Binstock, and Shoshana Nurik spent hours on Sunday preparing and cleaning for the Open House.Special appreciation to Nadine Goodban, who has sponsored two of our summer Sha’BarBQs! Our thanks to Missy Stevenson, who has spent hours and hours cleaning, setting up, and cleaning up after our events.
We are still hoping for angels to help sponsor our Open House meal of Israeli food! We are looking forward to doing Israeli dancing with Rachel Lessem, Teri Rosenmann, and Angelic Pierce. It was exciting to get a taste of it at the bar mitzvah!
Please attend our Open House and check out all the opportunities to gather with friends, both in person and online. Our next Havdalah Game Night is August 27th, and our next Sha’BarBQ in the courtyard is September 19th! I urge you to support your synagogue with your donations, your time, and your willingness to share your personal stories, and listen to others. This is how we build our connections as we work together to sustain our Jewish community and make new allies.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Gewing
