President’s Message – July 2023
I would like to share part of another President’s speech:
“My friends, at the most fundamental level, we face a choice…between a world defined by coercion and exploitation, where might makes right, or a world where we recognize that our own success is bound to the success of others.
“When others do better, we do better as well—where we understand that the challenges we face today, from the existential threat of climate change to building a global economy where no one gets left behind, are too great for any one nation to solve on their own, and that to achieve our goals and meet the challenges of this age, we have to work together.”
“The world is changing. We have a chance to change the dynamic.”
This was from President Biden’s speech to NATO this week. But it has a few points that are relevant for us as well. We face our own challenges, some of us more than others. Some have trouble finding the resources to pay for mortgage, food, and medicines. Some have trouble finding resources to care for aging parents, or childcare. Some have trouble breaking out of their isolation after Covid.
These challenges we face sometimes seem insurmountable, but if we are to be successful and overcome them, we can do better if we work together. And if others are doing better – there is less poverty, homelessness, discrimination, and unemployment – we will all be better off and the world will have more shalom!
As President Biden said, “We all benefit when more partners stand together, working toward shared goals. We all benefit when people are healthier and more prosperous…. We all benefit when more entrepreneurs and innovators are able to pursue their dreams for a better tomorrow….”
I want to hear about your challenges, and maybe by sharing and working together, we can find a way to meet some of the needs in our congregation, and our community. Please come and talk with me on Sunday morning, or send me a text or email when we can meet and talk!
We also are seeking to grow our community, and are looking for young families that might enjoy having a safe environment to meet and share experiences. We’d like ideas of what we might offer to benefit young families, and are exploring ways we might connect with them and interest them in our space. Please share any ideas or contacts with me, and together we will ensure our community continues for our children and grandchildren!
