PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE October 2019
Happy Fall!! The seasons are changing! I hope the fires didn’t cause you or your property any damage. Fortunately CBI survived unscathed! As a matter of fact, the power remained on at our synagogue (unlike most of Vallejo), and several of us were there doing work or charging our phones and laptops.
The finance committee reported great news – we are doing very well. The High Holiday Donations exceeded last year’s! We asked for a Handicapped Bathroom, a decent Wifi network, and new chairs for the bimah. The donations received have all been generous and have helped us to pay for these items, as well as the Apples and Honey reception and the Break-the-Fast meal.
The Program and Events committee has been busy. The board approved a class by Bernie Goldberg at 9:00 Saturday each week before services for kids and adults, the study of “Finding Myself in Torah.” This will take place in our social hall. Anyone/everyone is invited. Another class, back by popular demand is Angelic Pierce’s “Adult Hebrew,” (although a starting date has not been finalized, yet). For movies, the “chesed” group, and other activities check with the group, our calendar, or our weekly notes. The membership group welcomed Jack and Cheryl Mazer back to our synagogue. The committee is working with our administrator to make certain the application for membership is on-line.
The Buildings and Grounds Committee is moving forward in the design of our new handicapped 1-stall bathroom. We heard a special presentation by Jack Mazer on some of the finer points in the design. We are talking to the city about some of the requirements and upgrades to our current facility, to do this as simply and efficiently as possible. The security committee has had to temporarily postpone some activities as they depend on the fire department which is currently occupied.
Old Business concerns the High Holy Days. GOOD NEWS – There were no safety issues noted. I want to take this opportunity to thank Fred Zola and the volunteers for this entire event. One specific thank you I want to give is to Bill and Debbie Williges for the handicapped restroom which they have generously paid a substantial amount towards.
The last item discussed was the nominating committee for our next board. We approved 6 of the 7 members, we still need a member from the community. Interested??
Goodbye until next month!!
